What we cover
Our content is written for finance teams, founders, and students who want a grounded understanding of receivables financing before evaluating any provider.
A walk-through of the invoice lifecycle: submission, verification, advance, collection, and reserve settlement, with the vocabulary each stage uses.
A neutral comparison of contract structures, who carries debtor default risk, and how that risk is typically reflected in provider terms.
Notes on how factoring interacts with German commercial law, VAT invoicing, and cross-border receivables within the EU single market.
The mechanism
Regardless of provider, most factoring arrangements described in public industry sources follow the same broad sequence. Understanding it helps you ask sharper questions later.
A business delivers goods or services and issues an invoice with agreed payment terms to its customer, the debtor.
The business assigns the receivable to a factoring provider, who verifies the invoice and the underlying commercial relationship.
The provider pays a percentage of the invoice value upfront; the remainder is held as a reserve pending collection.
Once the debtor pays the invoice in full, the provider releases the reserve, minus any agreed fee.
